Ferry

Today wraps up our trip to Vermont. We just took a ferry from Vermont to New York, and now we're going to spend some time in Northern New York State with our grandparents on our mother's side. Our mother is going home tomorrow, but we'll meet back up with Dad later.

It's very strange how mothers work. The way our government and society are these days, we idolize mothers, we say "this is the best thing a woman can be," and yet mothers are not respected. Mothers are unpaid workers, sometimes even treated like cattle. We idolize them, and yet women's healthcare is severely lacking, we attempt to re-implement laws that prevent mothers from having a say in the laws that impact themselves and their children, they are treated as their husbands' properties, we love that they have babies but get upset when the wear and tear of pregnancy and childbirth appears on their bodies. We are hypocrites. I don't think we love mothers the way we claim we do.

This mother's day, show your mother some respect by reevaluating the patriarchy that you worship. Chances are, patriarchy doesn't love your mother as much as you do.

Please.
