Bowie & Henson
I recently watched Labyrinth with David Bowie and I just have to say… woah. Lots of the things I love combined into one movie. David Bowie, Jim Henson’s puppeteering (I grew up watching The Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock), fun and mystical scenery… I wonder how much the scenery associated with shows like Labyrinth, Fraggle Rock and The Dark Crystal unintentionally lent their hand to the Rayman series. It’s cool stuff! The way that all of them have art and unbound creativity just woven into every thread. I know that sacrifices had to be made to get that way, Henson struggled with work-life balance to the point that his kids never saw him outside of a work context… but it’s still all very fascinating to see the end result, with all the blood and sweat and tears poured into it.
I wish modern movies would use the computer less and start using practical effects more. 3D-animated stuff just isn’t as charming to me.
