30 Days of Dissociative Identity Disorder: Day 03

Another one! As usual, from CatalyticConvergence.

What are your thoughts on integration? Do you wish to integrate?

Ray and Globox answering this question this time!

The biggest misconception about integration is that it's the exact same thing as fusion. This is not the case! Fusion is simply the combining of alters. Integration is required for fusion, but integration does not always cause fusion. Integration is simply the lowering of dissociative barriers, leading to better communication between alters and less dissociative amnesia, which should be the end goal, moreso than final fusion.

That being said, since we are in therapy and have been with a specialist in DID for the past year, integration is one of our goals. Again, this means we just want better communication. We want alters to feel like they're not living life out-of-context, which is what switching and dissociative amnesia does to us. Some fusion may happen along the way as a result: even before our current therapist, it already has. Even final fusion is a potential outcome. But it is not a goal we're actively seeking nor is it something that should be forced.

So increased communication and lessened amnesia, alongside alleviating symptoms of depression, anxiety and PTSD, are the biggest goals we have for therapy and for our system overall. But in terms of not being multiple anymore? I wouldn't force it.
